COP30 Report Out - Having An Impact

Ocean acidification is a consequence of carbon emissions, and addressing it is central to global climate action, marine governance, and equity.  This year, the UN Climate Meeting (COP30) ran from November 10-21 in Belem, Brazil, hosted by the COP President.  

The OA Alliance hosted several official side events and participated in events and discussions at the UN Climate Meeting COP30 focused on:   

  1. Connecting ocean acidification science to policy, domestically and internationally.

  2. Calling for key ocean acidification aspects across mitigation, adaptation and financing mechanisms at UNFCCC.

  3.  Regionally focused meetings with partners in the Pacific Islands, Latin America and the Western Indian Ocean.

  4. Launch of OA Alliance Short Film, “Changing Waters: Time for Action on Ocean Acidification.

Our events featured speakers and participants including the governments of Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Fiji, Kenya, Tanzania and Makah Tribal Organization as well as affiliate partners like the Latin American Development Bank, World Resources Institute, IOC-UNESCO Africa, and Pacific Community.
