Incorporating Ocean Acidification into the European Ocean Pact - Submission to the European Commission’s call for evidence

The OA Alliance EU Stakeholders Working Group grew out of the meeting, ‘Exploring Marine Management and Policy Response to Ocean Acidification,’ which was held 24 May, 2023 on the margins of European Maritime Day 2023 in Brest, France.

Since then, this working group has met quarterly and was recently invited to become a member of the European Expert Group on the Strategic Coordination for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. As part of our efforts to advance the integration of Ocean Acidification into European legal and policy documents, we responded to the call for evidence to the EU’s premier ocean initiative, The Ocean Pact. 

The OA Alliance submission to the European Ocean Pact calls on the European Commission to account for climate change and ocean change across its core pillars in order to deliver:

1. Healthy and resilient seas;

2. Sustainable blue economies;

3. Useful data, research and knowledge management.
