The OA Alliance, in collaboration with PangeaSeed and ETH Zurich, presented at the UN Ocean Conference 2025:

“Carbon in the Current

Contrasting Futures for Our Changing Ocean

A first of its kind, 3D digital artistic animation conveying the impact of climate change on our ocean.

Carbon in the Current was released at UNOC 2025 as part of the Tidal Shifts Exhibition at the Neo Art Gallery From June 7-13. The official digital release was done on World Ocean Day, making the video animation available for everyone, everywhere.

the science

Carbon in the Current draws upon the ETH Zurich Ocean Acidification Stripes created by Nicolas Gruber & Luke Gregor, an innovative project which uses a stunning spectrum of colorful stripes to visually represent the rapid rate of change in ocean acidification recorded by global and regional observations over the past 40 years.

the art

Art makes science relatable, memorable, and motivational. By combining them, we aim to make the unseen impacts of climate-ocean change seen and emotionally felt.

This piece, created by Jacob Stillman, 3D artist and motion designer; will immerses you in a vibrant digital animation that will enable you to see, hear, and feel what ocean acidification, caused by excess carbon emissions, means for marine resources and human communities.

There is a lot at stake for the future of our changing ocean: we have a choice to act now for the future we want.
