The OA Alliance hosted a 2-day Coast to Coast State Workshop on Ocean and Coastal Acidification on September 26-27, 2019 at the New York Aquarium on Coney Island.
The workshop convened over 60 participants from 14 states and focused on sharing lessons learned and best practices across state governments that have undertaken or are interested in state-led actions to address ocean and coastal acidification. Key participants included governor’s policy leads, state agencies and task force members, and leaders from acidification monitoring networks, particularly from the West Coast, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Key successes of the convening included:
- Sharing lessons learned and best practices across state governments that have undertaken state-led efforts to address ocean and coastal acidification, especially those that have led to the development of a state OA Action Plan and implementation as called for by the OA Alliance;
- Cultivating leadership on ocean and coastal acidification across U.S. states.
The OA Alliance will be releasing a White Paper arising from discussions at the workshop that will capture challenges, obstacles and opportunities states are facing in addressing ocean and coastal acidification from management perspective and the strategies being used to make progress.
The White Paper will be available to all members once completed in early 2020.
